About Us
History
In the summer of 5766, a precious little boy completed his task in this world. Rabbi and Mrs. Levy and Batsheva Browd developed an organization in memory of their eldest son, מנחם מענדל בן יבדל"ח לוי יצחק ז"ל, after discovering that Sifsei Kohen al HaTorah says that a b’chor is particularly connected to the inyon of Limmud Torah. What began as a series of small shiurim by qualified young men in various apartment buildings in the neighborhood and a listing of available shiurim in Crown Heights has developed into a multi-faceted organization servicing the learning needs of Lubavitchers worldwide.Every dollar raised in Crown Heights stays here.
Importance
A refined outlook in life in the areas of morality, honesty and respect is one of the many reasons the Lubavitcher Rebbe encouraged a campaign for Torah learning. Torah remains as the indispensable guide for the Jewish nation and has always been the vital bond that kept us together for thousands of years.
Activities
Yagdil Torah aims to create a functional infrastructure to inspire, provide and further Torah study amongst Anash. This is accomplished through various Shiurim, listings, resources, pamphlets and publications. Yagdil Torah also runs several programs amongst them a very successful Chavrusa pairing program. Encouraged by the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s directive to create Mivtza Talmud Torah, the organization tirelessly endeavors to do all that Mivtza Torah entails.
Fringe Benefits
Yagdil Torah activites also promotes Achdus in the community by putting the focus on what is genuinely important thereby pushing aside the trivialities that drive brothers apart.
Staff
Yagdil Torah shiurim are given by a broad selection of Magidei Shiurim. Yagdil Torah’s programs are prepared by dedicated staff and volunteers.
Funding
Yagdil Torah is funded by generous patrons and service providers in the Crown Heights community who help cover the constantly growing budget.
Everyone Can Take Part
There is something for everyone at Yagdil Torah. For those that have a few moments to sit down and learn, Yagdil Torah offers a Chavrusa Pairing Program, Shiurim listings and Beis Midrash evenings.
Learning Booklets and U’Velechticha Baderech CDs are available for those constantly on-the-go. Online resources, recordings and Kovtzei Limmud are available for Lubavitchers living out of town. Women can have a part in Yagdil Torah’s activities through the Women’s Auxiliary and volunteer programs.
